Maybe I’m a Snob…
I don’t think I am, but maybe. Lately, it seems that every time I, or anyone else I know, tries to plan a trip or vacation, no matter how involved or expensive it is, it’s more trouble than it’s worth. People waffle back and forth, drop out at the last minute, express interest after deadlines have past. Just about anything to keep people from saying yes or no and providing whatever money is needed before any deadline. It doesn’t seem hard to me. Even if a person has kids. My parents never seemed to have a problem deciding whether or not they could vacation when I was younger. Why has it become so hard for people to make a damn decission and stick to it?
Lately, Janel has been planning a ski trip to Snowshoe. I am excited to go because it means I’ll be snowboarding, which I enjoy doing. This trip was mentioned over a month ago, and there was interest. A few weeks ago, Janel had gotten prices and sent an email to everyone interested. Originally, we had about 6 or 7 people ready to go. Due to a family emergency, 2 people had to pull out. Another person is dating one of them and couldn’t decide if she wanted to go without her boyfriend or not. So she was effectively out. After a week of trying to get a decission out of her, we were down to 4. This is about a week after the deadline Janel set out in the email.
Suddenly, 3 more people say they want to go, and a fourth says she might be able to go. My response was for Janel to give them the number to the rental office and let them fend for themselves. Not long after this, one of our 4 spraigned an ankle and was out. The other 3 that sprang out of nowhere disappeared just as quickly and we were down to 3, maybe 5 going. Last night, 2 dropped out and one more said he would feel like a third wheel going with Janel and I. So we’re down to 2 people going, we haven’t reserved the rooms and we’re supposed to leave Friday the 12th.
This happens whenever anyone tries to plan a trip out of town. Except for a handful of people, most either don’t have the money or can’t make up their minds whether they can or want to go. It’s not that hard. At least, I’ve never thought it was.
