Snowshoe re-cap
Janel and I spent a few days at Snowshoe between Feb 28 and March 2. While we were there, they got 30″ of fresh natural snow. That plus what they made each night made for the best snowboarding I’ve ever experienced.
The first full day (3/1), we got up early for the first run and went down in 8″-10″ of powder. It was like floating on a cloud. We spent all day in the Whistlepunk area with no lift-lines and snow continually coming down. That night, the wind kicked up and we were tired, so we didn’t last long. I think we called it a night at around 8:30.
The highlight of the day was Janel graduating to the blue slopes! Not exactly flying down them, but she managed to make it down without falling a few times.
The second day, we checked out and were on the slopes until around 4pm. Since we were tired, we didn’t make it to the first run of the day, but the conditions were still great, and the slopes were only marginally more populated.
One bad thing happened that morning. When I went out to the car, I unlocked the door. I heard the thing unlock, but I couldn’t open the door. Using my hand, I lightly hit the edges of the door thinking it might be frozen. This did nothing. I don’t know if it was the cold weather or I was pulling on the handle harder than I thought (You see where this is going…), but the handle popped right out of the door in my hand! Not a good start to the day.
Without re-locking the door, I went inside to see if Guest Services had any suggestions on de-icing a door (not a lock). They were useless. I guess my car wanted to punish me for something because 15 minutes later, when I was outside trying to open the trunk, the alarm went off. It’s not supposed to, but it’s been screwed up since I bought the car. Anyway, this means the car was still locked! I went to the passenger side, unlocked the door and it opened without a problem! Not a good start to the day at all. It would get worse.
To be continued tomorrow…
