Snowshoe, the return…

Janel and I hit up Snowshoe at the end of last week to take advantage of Janel’s voucher. Being that this is my first time back since The Horrible Impromptu Extended Vacation of 2005, I was happy to let Janel drive. I will also say up front that the rental car made it back to the beach under its own power and with no added body “features” short of some road dust.

We stayed at the Inn at the bottom of the mountain. Surprisingly, the place wasn’t as seedy as I had always though it to be. In fact, it wasn’t bad. Aside from the suck TV and even suckier remote (the battery cover had been replaced by electrician’s tape!), the place was kind of nice.

The conditions during the day were pretty decent. Not too cold or windy, and the slopes were packed powder with very little ice. At night, in Silver Creek, it was cold and the slopes were almost entirely ice. We did two runs and went back to the room.

Unfortunately, Janel had to quit early on the second day due to shin splints. I stayed out until about 4pm, and hit the pub thereafter.

After getting back to the beach, I helped Janel’s roommates paint doors and pressure wash the house in preparation for its going on the market. I also managed to catch a cold! One extra day off work and a whole bunch of Ny-Quil later, and I’m feeling somewhat human again. The fever broke at about 3am this morning. I awoke covered in sweat but feeling better. It was odd.
