Stupid ‘Bama cheers

Wow… I just looked up what “Rammer Jammer” means. Remember the heavily tattooed ‘Bama redneck from the EDSBS post:

Rammer Jammer 'Bama Redneck

The “Rammer Jammer Cheer” is a traditional and controversial cheer which taunts the Crimson Tide’s football opponents. It typically is played towards the end of a game when an Alabama victory is certain. Fans cheer:

Hey Tigers!
Hey Tigers!
Hey Tigers!
We just beat the hell outta’ you!
Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer
Give ‘em hell, Alabama!

What an incredibly lame-ass cheer. Seriously, “rammer jammer”? Couldn’t find another meaningless phrase that actually rhymes with ‘Alabama’? The possible meanings of the ‘yellow hammer’ combined with ‘rammer jammer’ simultaneously confuse and frighten me.

Well you didnt look it up good enough. Rammer Jammer is the school newspaper. Yellow Hammer is the Alabama State Bird. And when 98 thousand fans are screaming you should have the right to be frieghtened. ROLL TIDE !!!!!!!!!!

It’s no more lame-ass than “Weagle Weagle, War Damn Eagle, Kick them in the ass Big Blue, HEY” now is it?

^^Which is one of the many things Barnies of The Polytechnic Institute of Aubarn (AL.) has ripped off from us.

Floridan, no it’s not any more stupid than Weagle… but then again I wasn’t talking about “Stupid Auburn Chreers”, now was I? I can however guess that “Weagle” actually refers “WEGL” which is the campus radio station and pronounced the same way. But I could be wrong and “Weagle” could just be the result of some drunken rhyming efforts long ago. What does rhyme with “Eagle” that you would want in a cheer? Fecal? It would certainly suit last season’s offense!

Also, what was one of the many things Auburn stole from ‘Bama? Weagle? War Damn Eagle? Kicking them in the ass? Big Blue (which I’m pretty sure we, and numerous other schools stole from Michigan)? or use of the word “Hey” to end a cheer?

Chad: You’re right, I didn’t look it up. Now that I know what it is, I still think it’s a stupid cheer. And having heard it in both Bryant-Denny & Legion Fields, I can honestly say I was not frightened either time. I really didn’t know the paper was called the “Rammer Jammer”. What kind of stuff do they print? Is it “Family Friendly”? Besides all that, I still don’t know what a Rammer Jammer is aside from something someone thought to name a newspaper. Was it because it rhymed? Is it because ‘Bama has always been about ramming and jamming?

I’m sure you’ve heard those jokes before. You have to admit, though, someone not familiar with college sports or ‘Bama would have a head full of some vivid not-family-friendly images after hearing about anything called Rammer Jammer.

Another question: Why do all the ‘Bama fans wear houndstooth hats? In every photograph I’ve ever seen Bear Bryant in his iconic hat, it’s either a plaid or check patterned hat, I’m not sure. I am sure it’s not a houndstooth hat! Am I missing something?

While I’m here, I should apologize to the tattooed individual in the picture. I don’t know whether he’s a redneck or not. I don’t know a thing about the guy other than his obvious, and possibly troubling love of ‘Bama football. Although the odds that he has seen this post, or that anyone else will care are slim: Sorry, dude. Whatever floats your boat!
