Power to the people… Down with the Man!

Having been a Mozilla user for quite some time, awhile back I began using Firefox. This is the stripped down browser-only version of Mozilla. Generally speaking, I prefer Firefox over Mozilla’s browser, and have begun using Thunderbird for mail. Lately, there have been a number of new reports showing that Firefox and Mozilla are taking a bite out of Internet Explorer’s share of the market.

I only use IE for going to Windows Update, and even then, I use an IE overlay called Avant. On OS X, I split my time evenly between Firefox and Safari.

Anyway, if you’re like me and prefer a more intuitive browser with great exclusive extensions and plugins, check out Spread Firefox and try Firefox. The site may be a little slow since it’s getting quite a bit of traffic. I am going to be adding a “Get Firefox” button on this site soon.

Screw the Hummer!

If you want a REAL truck, you need the International 7300 CXT. This makes a Hummer look like a Tonka toy, and I think it’s way better looking.

Yeah, this needs to happen

Revenge of “Revenge of the Nerds”
By Josh Grossberg

Nerd alert!

Fox Searchlight has greenlighted a remake of 1984′s hit college comedy, Revenge of the Nerds, which follows a fraternity of misfits seeking payback against the football players harassing them, Daily Variety reports.

The studio has reportedly hired scribes Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah to pen the script. The duo appropriately enough wrote for the short-lived but critically-acclaimed NBC series Freaks and Geeks and are the creators of ABC’s new drama Life as We Know It.

Charlie’s Angels helmer McG, The OC star Adam Brody, and Grounded for Life’s Brett Harrison will produce the picture.

McG immediately sparked to the idea of a Nerds redo after Brody and Harrison approached the director on the set of Fox’s I>The O.C., on which he’s an executive producer.

“[Harrison] said everyone he knew would like to see a new take on the film, and I told him that I knew every single line of the original film and the sequel,” McG told Variety. “I could definitely relate to every aspect of those films and was absolutely on the nerd side.”

Bullies beware.

The original starred Anthony Edwards (news), Robert Carradine and Timothy Busfield as a bunch of socially awkward but lovable freshman at Adams College who find themselves oppressed and taunted by the more popular jocks of the Alpha Beta fraternity. Hoping to avoid more wedgies, the nerds form their own frat and attempt to over the student council, inciting an all-out war.

Revenge of the Nerds, which also featured John Goodman (news), Bernie Casey and James Cromwell (news), became a surprise hit at the box office, grossing over $40 million.

It also spawned three sequels, 1987′s Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise, 1992′s Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation, and 1994′s Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds In Love.

According to McG, the new version will share a similar storyline with the 1984 film, not to mention a politically incorrect R-rating, but be updated for the Palm Pilot generation.

It is also likely to feature new oddballs, though the filmmaker didn’t rule out cameos by original castmembers, giving hope that the writers might someday resurrect Ogre, Booger and other memorably-titled characters.

McG’s partner Stephanie Savage plans to coproduce along with Searchlight’s Julia Dray and Peter Rice. Brody and Harrison may also star in the flick should their schedules permit.

If all goes well, expect the new Nerds to graduate to theaters sometime by 2006.

Some Hurricane Humor

I spent last week in Florida. I was supposed to go down there on the 3rd, but Hurricane Frances changed my plans. When my folks and I got down there, the state was pretty messed up. The river was almost over my grandparents’ dock. Because of all the tanic acid in the water of the St. John’s River, the fish are dying in huge amounts. Dad actually caught 3 good sized bass by hand at the launch ramp! Once they got in the fish tank on the boat in the aerated water, they sprang back to life. I’m sure they had a good hour of life before being filletted at the fish dock. They tasted good too. My grandparents got power back on the 10th and we had a family dinner the next night before leaving town Sunday morning.

Read on for the hurricane joke email I got…

Continuing Education

I learned a new word today:

jackassery

As used in the comic strip Non Sequitur on 9/13:

“And what manner of jackassery must we put up with today?!”

I don’t really care if it’s a real word.

Damn Cricket!

That little monotonous bastard is back outside my window. I guess he was on vacation Monday night. That’s it. I need a can of hairspray and a lighter. It ends this weekend…

No more cricket

Nothing major. I just managed to fall asleep last night with no cricket noise. I hope it lasts…

Improper finger use…

On the way into work this morning, there was an old Honda CRX weaving in and out of traffic and cutting people off. Eventually, it was my turn to be cut off. Without signalling he swerved in front of me. Signalling happens to be kind of a pet peeve of mine – especially on the highway durring rush hour.

Oh, but that’s not all. If that were it, I wouldn’t be writing this as I get cut off at least once a day. No, when I flashed my brights at the guy, he hit his brakes and gave me the finger. What the hell!? Hey, I know the guy cut me off. He knows he cut me off. He knows I know, and I know he knows. I’ve done it myself. We all have. The problem is, when you get called on it by the person you cut off, suck it up. Why get confrontational about someone calling you an ass when you know you were being an ass!?

So here’s to you testosterone-filled CRX driver. Maybe one day, you’ll try that in front of a Suburban and your little car will become a sardine tin. One can hope.

Weird Dream

I had a dream last night that I actually remembered (a rareity for me these days). I was at a movie with Janel and the theater was packed. I am not sure why so many people were there, the movie wasn’t a movie at all, but rather HBO’s Deadwood.

In my dream, there’s a girl sitting next to me, late teens I would guess. She’s constantly talking to her friend. She begins explaining who all the characters are and getting them all mixed up. She says Timathy Olyphant’s character is Wild Bill, she identifies the guy playing Wild Bill as Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane she says is Annie Oakley, and so on with pretty much all the characters. I lean over and whisper something in Janel’s ear to the effect of the girl being pretty dumb not to know who the characters are after a season of the show. The girl then looks at me and elbows me in the face.

At this point, I grab the girl by the arm and drag her out of the theater looking for a manager. I find another mid to late teens girl in the lobby claiming to be a manager. She asks the girl what happened. The girl says I was “plagiarizing” her to which I reply asking if she even knows what the word means. The manager defends the girl and begins tearing up for some reason. She says, “I know how you feel” to the girl. Then they both sit down on the floor to have a good cry together in the lobby of the theater. All the while my head is burried in my hands and shaking back and forth. I mouth the words, “I can’t believe this is happening” to myself and that’s it. Dream over.

Why can’t I have cool dreams about getting rich, winning a big game, having great sex….? I have to wake up wondering what the hell that meant!

Cricket Beacon

For the past week, I have had this cricket outside my window. It chirps all night long. By that I mean, when I go to bed, I hear non-stop monotonous chirping. If I wake up in the middle of the night, the chirping hasn’t stopped or changed. When I wake up in the morning, you guessed it, the chirping is still there. I think it’s some kind of cricket lighthouse or beacon.

Oh well, this weekend, after I get back from Czerton & Jess’ wedding, I’m pulling the bush below my window out along with some weeds and vines. I know that damn cricket will still be there, but maybe I’ll have some solace in having messed up its home.
