This weekend at Snowshoe, Janel and I had a great time. Sunday, our last day, I got a little adventurous and started popping off the run into the trees a little bit. Mind you, I was not boarding through the woods by any stretch of the imagination. Merely following little paths around a few trees and back out onto the main run. Nothing big. After four or five times, Janel had still not seen me. Something about her trying to pay attention to not falling or hitting anyone around her. Anyway, the last time through the trees, she saw. That was the time I hit the tree. Pretty hard too. She says she heard a smack about 70 yards back up the slope. I just kind of slumped against the tree while I caught my breath and made sure I was still/going to remain conscious. Fortunately, my chest didn’t tighten up until the drive home. That sucked. Especially after hitting Taco Bell in Charlotteville and almost getting hick-ups.
:: UPDATE 3.23 ::
Went to the doctor today and got Celebrex. Apparently, the cartilage between my ribs and sternum are inflamed like an old man’s hip! The first pill you take is 400mg! I didn’t even know my ribs were there an hour after swallowing it. Unfortunately, the regular 200mg pills that comprise the rest of the bottle aren’t near as effective.

I got a piece of mail today that caught my eye. It’s about the ten mistakes men make meeting/dating women. Normally, I don’t even read the spam I get (which isn’t much), but for some reason this caught my eye. Perhaps I wanted to see if it actually listed the ten things or was a link to buy the list. Turns out is was a little of both. The list was the teaser, and – surprise – it is selling something. Funny, for trying to not act like he’s selling something, he uses all caps and exclamation points A LOT! Anyway, the list is below and there’s a link to the eBook he’s selling if you feel swayed.

I don’t think I am, but maybe. Lately, it seems that every time I, or anyone else I know, tries to plan a trip or vacation, no matter how involved or expensive it is, it’s more trouble than it’s worth. People waffle back and forth, drop out at the last minute, express interest after deadlines have past. Just about anything to keep people from saying yes or no and providing whatever money is needed before any deadline. It doesn’t seem hard to me. Even if a person has kids. My parents never seemed to have a problem deciding whether or not they could vacation when I was younger. Why has it become so hard for people to make a damn decission and stick to it?

This is a pretty cool site that chronicles a baloon twister’s journeys around the world with his companions. The pictures of different people wearing some pretty outlandish balloon hats. I only wish the galleries were more extensive.

I love a defensive fight as much as the next guy. Anyone who thinks last night’s game was boring until the end of the second quarter is an idiot. Defense wins Super Bowls every bit as much as offense. Some would argue that defense is more important. I don’t know if I would go that far, but I am a fan of stiff defenses. I thought last night’s game was everything a Super Bowl should be. I felt bad for Carolina, a team I don’t particularly care for except for the two Auburn alumni they have starting. After really sputtering on offense, they found their groove and the game got more and more interesting with every posession. My only critique: why did they go for two the first time? I understand why they did the second time – because they missed the first attempt and needed the extra point to get back in striking distance..

Last night, we went to see Henry Rollins’ spoken word show at the NORVA. Anyone who has not seen this is missing out. Rollins gives about 3 hours of great stories and interesting perspectives on life. After getting through a quick (30-45 minute) politically charged rant, Rollins began telling us about the strangest conversation he’d ever had in California that had occured not too long ago. Before getting to the conversation, the story launched into a tangent, then to another tangent and so on. Three hours later, we learned about the conversation – and it was pretty surreal. Good times. I got a shirt and a signed poster.

Last night, while I was leaving A.J. Gators in Norfolk, I dropped my new phone for the first time. I just switched to T-Mobile and got a Sony T610 phone that I love. It’s small without being too small, it has bluetooth and IR and it just looks smooth. Not anymore. As I was putting my hand through the sleeve of my coat (phone in hand), my hand shot through the sleeve, released the phone and practically threw it across the road! I heard every smack the phone made against the asphault as if it were all happening in slow motion. My phone is no longer new. It’s beat up. It’s common.

Friday, I drove up to DC to see the new Bruce Campbell movie, Bubba-Ho-Tep. The movie had a great premise but was pretty slow. Bruce did a Q&A after the movie and was hilarious. It’s really no wonder this guy has the fan base he has. He seems to really enjoy entertaining his fans. After the movie was more like a stand-up comedy routine with audience participation rather than a Q&A. Because of a false fire alarm in the middle of things, Todd and Witt wound up with plenty of free passes since the theater employees weren’t paying attention to who got how many.

Pete Rose has a ‘feel sorry for me’ book coming out called “My Prison Without Bars.” From what I can tell, the book is about his past and his banishment from baseball. I am sure there is some appologizing and probably even some self-blame. In reality, the whole book should be self-blame.
