Limey TV

Since getting DirecTV installed at the house, I have been watching BBC America quite a bit. My parents have Dish Network and I remember watching Changing Rooms before TLC aired their first episode of Trading Spaces. I remember watching Ground Force with my parents and lauging at all the Brit kids staring at the Irish woman’s unbridled sweater pillows.

What happened!?

How Auburn managed to completely collapse against LSU Saturday night is beyond me. That’s really all I have to say about that.

How ’bout them Mountaineers!

Finally, the college football world saw what my roommate and I already knew: Virginia Tech is not a #3 team. West Virginia beat Miami to providing Tech’s fist loss this season last night in a 28-7 dismantling of the defense, offense and, most suprisedly, Frank Beamer. Did anyone else see him swat his QB on the helmet?

Now, I am just hoping Auburn can upset LSU like Florida did a couple weeks ago. If we can do that, we should have the confidence to take on Georgia. If we can beat Georgia, I think my Tigers should be given some kind of ‘Giant Killer’ award as that would be 4 top-10 teams they will have beaten.

First thing’s first. Beat LSU.

Paging Mr. Dobalina

Generally, when I register for things and I don’t feel obligated to give my personal information, I use the name Robert Dobalina. If you remember Del The Funkee Homosapien, you’ll see the humor, albeit slight, in this. You can imagine my laughter when I got the following email:

Dear Mr. Robert Dobalina,

Your account has been activated.

I think I need to start using Bob instead of Robert.

If you’re thinking of trying this practice yourself, get your own fake name. I have dibs on Dobalina. I have a friend who uses Johnny Depp all the time.

wow…

I found this on Yahoo! News’ AP. This guy jumped in the river and rode the American Falls part of Niagra Falls in nothing but the clothes on his back. Apparently not hurt, he swam to shore and walked away handcuffed with the five-0. Full story below…

Curses!

2 weeks ago, I was sitting at White Horse Pub watching game 4 of the NLDS between the Cubs and my beloved Braves. As the Braves won 6-4, I was talking to a guy sitting next to me and we both agreed that while a Cubs-Sox World Series would be great, it wouldn’t happen. At the time the Sox were down 2 games to none to the A’s. The guy’s wife asked why it couldn’t happen if both teams were still in it. In the next game, the Sox won. Now it was 2-1. Then the Cubs slammed the door on Atlanta 5-1. That same day, Boston tied up their series. Could it happen? The next day, Boston beat the A’s. It was down to the league championship series.

After 4 games, Chicago looked like they had tamed Pudge and the Fish. At the same time, Boston had traded games with the Yankees making me think the dream World Series would happen. Bigger and better than the Subway Series of a few years ago. Two teams with such frustrating histories, and some of the most loyal fans in baseball. Then things tunred around. Florida reeled off 3 wins and dropped the Cubs like a bad habit.

Boston looked like they could still do it. Last night, in the middle of the 8th inning, it looked like Pedro Martinez and Co. had done it. Then history reared its ugly head and the usually unshakable Pedro gave up 3 runs to tie the game. The boys from the Bronx finished them off in the 11th.

Why, oh why!? How can my beloved Braves put up one of the best records in baseball and fall apart in the post season? It’s not like they aren’t used to post-season play. Maybe they’re not used to playing in front of a full crowd since Braves fans only start coming to games in the post-season. It must be some kind of curse. How can the Cubs look so confident and dominating against the Marlins only to lose 3 in a row? When will the Cubs or Sox be back in the World Series? When will either have a chance to win another one!? Is anyone else getting a little tired of seeing the Yankees at the top of the AL?

GO FISH!

New Installation

Just got movabletype installed. I am generally not a fan of blogs, but I figured I could use this for quick updates to replace the old ’stuff’ section. Beyond that, this could also serve to replace my old rants section. I may or may not publish the old rants on here. They’re kind of dated, and I think only one or two held any interest for people other than myself. Maybe I’ll just post those ones and the rest can disappear forever.

I still need to work on the formatting of the blog, but that will have to wait for me to finally get a design figured out. Must get creative juices flowing…
